WELSHTESTER

I'm in the process of setting up a new business venture specialising mainly in fixed wire testing, I've been a tester for the last 7 years now (electrician for 25 years), i'll also be offering to do PAT testing services.

I've not done much pat testing before so i'm keen to hear from you on advice on the best testers, easiest to use, most reliable and what are the minimum requirements that i'm likely to need (i.e...buy a tester with built in memory/software/printer/scanner...etc)

thanks in advance

Seaward prime tests are good...

If your just starting out you could buy the basic one and write the results out.

Then when your bored of doing it after 4 hours and want to jack it in. you haven't got that much to lose...

It depends on how much your doing and who for really. Seaward primetest are good basic units. Handheld battery powered. Can pick them up second hand for about £150 so not a massive outlay. Or if you do a hell of a lot of testing you could go for a seaward Europa or metrel omega, all singing all dancing, no paperwork, just pluginto PC after the job and click print!

If your just doing the very odd bits you might get away with using your MFT just make an adaptor and off you pop. If you've never done pat testing before then I'd suggest getting the 4th edition code of practice for hints and tips especially where PCs are concerned.
Good luck

Seaward prime test 200. Isn't a bad model, doesn't have a download software but you can test fixed appliances with them. I think the 300 model has software but not sure if it will test fixed appliances

Thread is 10 months old, I'd doubt he is still thinking about which one to purchase lol
