How do colleagues approach jobs where 'do it all' cowboys have gutted houses for customers doing all the plumbing/ wiring / decorating themsleves - Customer happy with job until they start to have problems - Poor IR on downstairs extended ring needs boards up but all new carpets etc etc -
Any ideas on keeping 'damage' to a minimum
Thanks

ive worked with a "builder" before, and he said he could do anything. He built, plumbed and wired 2 houses, and now lives in one. Hes told me before, that he has wired lights in the past with bell wire. Iasked him if he was stupid, only to be told, thatthey will only get warm. Ive seen some of the older jobs that he carried out for the company that we both used to work for, and it was shoddy. But in his eyes, he had been doing it for 30 years, so he was competent. 30 YEARS DOING IT WRONG!!!!

As a electrician for a local authority I have seen more than my fair share of botched DIY electrical work. I remember one guy who stood there before we started the work on his kitchen and proclaimed he was a member of the then IEE and we had to watch ourselves and what we said. Well when he moved out of the house he lived in we could not believe what he had done to to it. The man was a menace he did do some work in the next home he lived in but nowhere near as bad. He moved to England recently and he is there problem now.

But they will all have to stand in line behind the Health and Safety Officer.

Sorted - bloody connector block hidden under floorboards - thrown together - cables hacked back - with P and E touching - but it was wrapped in tape though ! Meter reads fine now. Thanks to all those for your advice
