underfloor heating!

ok, in a bit of a debate with myself here?!!
looked a t big extension on a bungalow, guy wants underfloor heating, already speccced it himself...................if thats what he wants to do, anyway, it looks like he wants two, one in the kitchen(2kw) and one in the downstairs showeroom, all part of the new build extension(1kw)

I will be fitting new board etc all fairly easy, so any suggestions on wiring the underfloor into the ccts.

Ie
1) do i wire a seperate radial for both approx 35 metres in total 2.5mm
2) do i wire into the ring, one on the kitchen ring(2kw) the other on the downstairs ring(1kw)
or do i wire it in 4.0mm for the radial? I know it only totals 3kw, however the guy may have a conservatory built next year and may want underfloor heating in it?? approx 2 kw?

what u think?

could even wire it all on a seperate ring as i have room on board, leaving scope to tap into it with conservatory next year.

its one of those, im unsure what i will have next year kind of jobs if u know what i mean!

Think I'd go for that if you may need to add to the circuit at a later date.

thats what i was thinking bud......................looks like the best option, as like i said im expecting the call next year for the conservatory and im dead sure the guy will want the underfloor heating in there so best i plan for that me thinks!!!

Maybe just let the customer decide. Give him two quotes, one for the cheapest route and one for the option that will allow future connection for the conservatory.

I would go for seperate radials for each but I would want to look into the shower room as in you part p people just to see what they say as its 230 v and lots of water and I wouldn't want to do anything at all wrong in that case so make sure its best it could be according to them. More wine needed lol

should be ok in the shower room, its basically a small bathroom with a shower cubicle in it!

As it is UFH it is classed as a special installation and will have to come under Part P as notification in any case regardless of where it is installed.

It's bs 7671 that determines how it is done,not part P......there is a section on general underfloor heating in section 7 and it's covered in locations with a bath or shower....as always check out the relevant regs before installing.

I thought RFCs where only for socket outlets?

What about a couple of radials in 2.5? You'd need an extra MCB, but save on one run of cable.

Regulation 533.1.5 tells that BS 1363 may be supplied by a ring final circuit, it does not say only BS 1363 can be used on a ring final. I have wired FCUs on a ring final, but I can't imagine wanting to fit much else on it, or any kind of fix load appliance.

Having looked into it, I agree that a ring final can be used for things other than sockets. I don't see the advantage though if you're only supplying 2 or 3 points.

its a bit of a do i dont i scenario!!
the total load of underfloor heating with potential new build of conservatory next year will be around 5KW.
the run is only about 25 metres in total. I have not fitted a board yet so can scope it out for a bigger one to accomodate the extra ccts.
ive gotta feeling the customer wants room for extra ccts for the future as he is going to stay in this place until he croaks it......................so he tells me! lol

Use this mat & you will not need to install an earthed grid over the top of the mat for the bathroom/shower room.
Warmup | Foil Floor Heating System | Foil Underfloor Heating System
Or use a loose wire system that incorperates an earthed aluminium sheath.
