Hello,

Not the usual question probably posted in this sub-forum but I believe this could be beneficial for some of you as well as myself, maybe.

Anyways, I’m 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] year software engineer at Uni and next year I’ll be doing my third and final year project. For my final year project we have to find a given problem in any area and solve it using software.

Now as some of my friends are electricians by trade I thought it would be a lot easier to get feedback about potentially solvable problem, but as well as them I’d like to get feedback from other electricians.

My hats off to all of you in this industry as it seems way harder than anything I’ll ever have to put up with as a software engineer.

Would really like any input regarding the questions below and I'll be sure to follow up and keep everyone involved as a part of whatever may or may not result from this conversation. So here goes nothing (flame retardant suit on):

Can you walk me through a typical day for you?
What’s the most painful task you have day-to-day?
What takes up most of your time?
What are you currently doing that frustrates you?
What tasks are you doing that you believe can be made easier or less tedious?

Btw - I’ve tried contacting companies and not surprisingly I got little response.

Most painful? In literal terms its a tough call between being doubled over in a hot sweaty cramped loft wiring up a JB or losing my knuckles on the sharp edges of the cable chase i am knocking out

Can you walk me through a typical day for you? get up, work , beer, bed.
What’s the most painful task you have day-to-day? getting up.
What takes up most of your time? thinking about beer and sex, but not necessarily in that order.
What are you currently doing that frustrates you? working past beer o'clock.
What tasks are you doing that you believe can be made easier or less tedious? everything.

aside from that. traffic jams due to idiots. customers, plumbers, kitchen butchers, and any fool that thinks he can do electrical work when he knows bugger-all.

Can you walk me through a typical day for you? - 10 hours including paperwork and seeing new customers

What’s the most painful task you have day-to-day? - nothing really unless you include stupid DIY'ers invading this forum and expecting something for nothing.

What takes up most of your time? - working for a living

What are you currently doing that frustrates you? - answering this!

What tasks are you doing that you believe can be made easier or less tedious? - ignoring this forum, having to tell people repeatedly about Part P and LABC notification and the importance of using a competent person

Answers in red above!

i would say trying to keep from slapping people over the stupidity of doing a dangerous job themselves when they're not qualified to do it.
while im not one to slam a D.I.Y. electric is not a place you want to work without proper training.

Hi gwitz if there was some sort of software that would record where I was and when to save me having to remember to write it down or some sort of computer in the back of the van to record what material went on each job and let's you know what you are short of.

some of this new alarm cable that's about as thick as a pubic hair and has as much strength as wet pi$$

I took part in a trial about stress levels. Mine was off the scale most of the time due to people asking stupid questions!

Most painful task today is a choice of two, I knelt on a screw which wasn't the most fun I've ever had and later I thought it would be fun to bang my knee on a ladder, it was no fun at all.
