Looks OK to me Mike. Actually it is better than the pluggable version because it is a permanent conversion.

Absolutely not like that, it does not have an earth connection, it is not the correct type, look at the plug the treadmill has and the fact the instructions say it must be earthed.?
It does have the earth connection.

Sorry knee jerk reaction on my previous post. As long as the existing plug is straight, it may well be a good solution.

There is a springy strip in the base that presses against the earthing side-contact of the plug. It is designed for use with those plugs.

Yo, sorry.

But it wasn't so much the taping over I was concerned about, it's the overheating-verging-on-a-near-fire that has taken place

Probably should be condemned
Oh gosh thanks, I actually did not notice that. I think a few years ago there was trouble when the two power showers were used in the house at the same time so could have been that but must get it checked, is it a big job to get a new one?

Going by what is visible, the CU should have been replaced then.

but must get it checked, is it a big job to get a new one?
Only the person who inspects and tests the existing installation can tell you how big a job it is to replace the CU.
