I’ve got a job coming soon to replace an old Fusebox with an all rcbo unit.
The box at the moment is mounted behind an access door in the wall.
It may be the new CU is wider than the existing door, but that’s not really the problem.

The distance between the front of the new CU and the access door may mean that any access lid on the cover might not open fully.

Could I remove the hinged lid from the CU?
There’s no chance the breakers could be accidentally turned off as they’re still behind the access door in the wall.

The lid is supposed to help contain an exploding/burning MCB/ RCBO/RCD

Ok. Makes sense. Never thought of it as a safety feature, just aesthetics.

much better than the old plastic hinges that either broke, or would open but not shut again.
Or the covers on fuse boards with the thumb turn. Always find them laying on top of the fuseboard, not back where they should be.
