Got a call this morning from a lady in Northampton.
I was dubious even though she asked for me by my business name.
She went on to say that a store in my town had.......wait for it......"blown a circuit" & their engineer wasn't
able to make it until next week, fair enough, I declined because I am genuinly busy for the next four week.
Because of the amount of sales calls I recieve on a weekly basis I thought this might just be one of those type of sales pitches, saying that, I might have just done myself out of a contract after looking up the number on the W.W.W......DELTA EXPRESS SERVICES LTD, Unit 2, 1-2 Millbrook Close,
NORTHAMPTON,
NN5 5JF..... TEL: 01604582418
They seem to be advertising themselves as an Electrical contractor, has anyone else heard of them?

Was a common thing back in the 90's for small contractors to take on national contracts and sub the work outside there area. They generally used the NICEIC contractors list to sub the work

As well as electrical work from a number of contractors I had a lot of CCTV work subbed to me by a company based in Kent

Thank's.

I'm an NICEIC contractor, trouble is, in the several years that I 've had my name on the NICEIC website
I've only had one job from it, I thought it might be sales again, never mind, I'm up to my neck in work.
I've never had a company call me & say they have a blown circuit! if it was a genuine call then why not cut to the chase.

Seems to be common practice, the company i work for use that method when call outs come in and we have no one in the area. Now we have several regular contractors carrying out this type of work.

Trouble is the "blown circuit" is probably the customers description relayed by someone in an office handling the calls with no knowledge of electrics who has an SLA to achieve or suffer contract penalties. I agree they could have approached it better but if a deadline was looming may be panic was setting in as you were the umpteenth contractor they had called and all had turned them down

I'm glad I did turn it down, could have walked into a minefield.
I was called to a large store on a retail park that was having problems with a timer for the main sign light,
I noticed the two burnt out timers in the corner of the room, turns out the store handy man had had his mittens all over the place........the whole store had been rewired two years previously......it was a disaster done on the cheap!........I declined their offer of sorting out the problem & left.
Seems all to common these days.

I might have taken the offer if the lady on the other end of the phone had told me what she was calling for, no need for the cloak & dagger stuff. :p
