CK combi cutters as shown in the link can supposedly neatly double up your terminals (yes i know you could easily do it with ordinary pliers)

Ck Combicutters™ : The CK Tool shop!, Designed for professionals

I got a pair out of the stores at college today and could i work out how to use them to double up - no:o
Thinking it was just me i asked a few of the more experienced students and four of the staff - several of them very experienced electricians - and none of them could!!

There is a hole running thru them and an anvil type thing - does anyone use them for doubling up and if so is it easy to use and how on earth do you do it ! I appreciate it might be a bit tricky to explain in words.
cheers.

Which ones were you using, looks like the combicutter3 only has the cable bending anvil on it

Was beginning to think maybe i had the wrong cutters but on close examination of the photos on the web site they definitely were the combi 3s . It actually shows a picture HERE of the wire being finished and squashed together but doesn't show it being started off.

I thought the diagonal slot you can see in the link was something to do with it.

Haven't used them myself personally mate.Went to buy a pair today at the wholesalers but they were out of stock.I think it just takes a bit of practice mate

I just use the snipper bit of the cutters to form the bend, then place the bend in the bit below the two holes you use for trimming down patress screws.... and squeeze!

Is well easy, would be lost without them badboys!

To make extra sure the connections are secure it is common practice (in the UK) to double back the wire. It is normally done by using the tip of the side cutters to roll the wire into a loop before squeezing the loop together using the blades of the cutter.

Thats from the website.

I saw the quote from the website but i think that is just explaining how people do it with ordinary side cutters and risk damaging the wire with the blades.

this is the way to do it. its pretty easy. mine have taken a battering on the site i'm on now and cutting 2.5 is getting to be a 2 handed squeeze, could just be the cable cos i could still have some ones eye out when cutting the singles but i think i need a bigger pair. they are good for working on DB's tho. the strippers are a nice touch and the m3.5 cutters get you out of a jam but unless youve got vice hands, go easy on cuttin twin.
