Discuss Downgraded from a 9.5Kw shower to an 8.5kw one. Need to change wires/fuse/switch as well? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net
that's the problem with a lot of shower pulcords. change to a crabtree or a click. the way the cables route into the terminals eliminates that problem.Alright thanks a lot everyone. The switch is a pull cord 45A. To be fair the wires are extremely hard to bend and when you push the switch back up, everything gets cramped up. I will change the shower for good measure, there might be some scale build up inside.
I have seen the results of this once. A guy called me to ask what to do. He was having a shower and the power shower was on fire. You can imagine my response. I later discovered cable burnt out inside the power shower. Someone had fitted a 'cheaper' lower capacity power shower and left the higher capacity fuse in place. Remedy: rip out and back to gravity fed shower. No, fuse generally protects the cable. Smoke probably means high resistance connections which won't blow the fuse unless the cable shorts, which it did once but maybe not again. Not sure what you're getting at.
#10 also says "I will change the shower myself"!!The only way you could know the cables are extremely hard to bend is you have changed the switch your self. That could be the problem.
