Discuss Electrical Installation Certificate in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Excellent advice thanks, can I just to an EICR for those specific circuits as that is all she needs to meet the

hrm it says you cant use eicr when additions or alterations are made
do an eicr and send the bill to the company that issued the work, if bc wont accept it then the company that took on the job need to pay to get it sorted even if that means redoing it.

if it comes to that, don't forget to seek compensation this will lower the bill and she will be happy.

BS7671 is a non statatory document so if you don't have to follow the requirements within it but if you dont you have to explain the reasons why not and an EIC is part of that document so by completing one for this job you are stating you are taking responabilty for design instalation and testing of the work done if you feel convident to be able to convince s judge and jury that your reasons for not following BS7671 was better than following it then carry on.

So my deviation from bs7671 could be that I have tested/fixed installation and everything is ok but the installer still takes full responsibility for his install.

If your location is Scotland, then I'm guessing the property is too? In which case Part P doesn't apply so just do an EICR on the relevant circuits and that's it.

Had this situation a couple of times where cowboys have buggered off halfway through or bodged it up.

Both times building control were adament that a EIC have to appear from somewhere to cover the work or it could not be signed off.

Both times I explained that the contractors that installed had gone on the missing, remeadial work had been carried out to sort the job out and and EICR + m/w certs were all that i was allowed to give them.

Both times they accepted it after a bit of a moan.

Building control act like they will just walk away unless you give them exactly what they want but the truth is they need to sign it off, they are dealing with a lot of different aspects of construction and dont always understand every trade deeply.

This question seems to crop up quite a bit. i.e Electrical work has been done, not signed off by the people doing the work and then building authority want an EIC.

Three times now I have been asked to sign of others work. When I say 'no' but offer an EICR I dont hear from them again. With one of those people I know they just got an electrician to do a MWC (and paid him £200 for it!).

Just a guess but I wonder if lots of electricians do this, most aren't going to admit it on this site as it's frowned upon!
