So....we've recently had our test and inspection report carried out on the fixed wiring in the building and a defect that has come up multiple times is this....No emergency light in mains area, this is a requirement under the health and safety act.

Though I can see the importance of having an emergency light by a DB, I have never heard of this being a requirement.

Does anyone know if this is part of an actual BS:7671 regulation?

Many Thanks

James

You don't say whether the building is domestic or commercial but I presume the latter. I doubt it's a BS7671 requirement but it may well be suggested under other legislation such as EAWR or H&S. There are also local rules - for instance, our local university has a list of demands beyond the Wiring Regs if a property is going on their approved letting list.

It comes under BS5266 to provide emergency lighting in areas containing essential equipment which may need to isolated or operated in a emergency situation
