it does work and you can choose to have it worldwide, UK only, or even just the city you live in, google knows where the internet user is sitting and puts your advert up at the top for them depending what kind of business you have and how far away you want to advertise , you can set a budget and pre-pay it so that is stops the advert after say, 1000 clicks so that your expenses dont go through the roof due to idle curiosity or a rival company setting up a program to give your adverts a hundred thousand clicks in a day, which some would probably do if you werent using pre pay advertising, as it is all tallied by "page impressions" or in other words pay per click...
There are another few things you can do, like if you are a registered Limited company, you can apply for a dot ltd dot uk web address that looks more professional (in America they have a domain for incorporated companies with the ending in dot pro ....for professional) also its time to start thinking about getting a website made up to work on the tablet computers/smart phones as a lot of people are using them in the office now, and there are companies out there that provide the new "green standard" of SSL security for email reply forms and customer sign- ins, what this does is put a fancy green search bar with a security logo on it at the top of internet explorer in windows vista, windows 7 and all the new browsers so that the customer can see that their information is safer on your site......
get some small size flyers done (maybe 60 pounds for 500) and put some through the letterbox of businesses within maybe 10 miles of you, dont be shy, put them into shops and hotels, as most people dont bother to advertise to them directly for some strange reason...I find that flyers are good as many shops dont have letterboxes (for obvious reasons-vandals etc) so you can slide 2 or 3 between the big glass doors or under the ordinary doors so that the owner gets them, I normally do it after closing time so that the owner picks them up in the morning when they unlock the shop and reads them having their early morning cup of tea, that way they get a while to think about them before the postie arrives with the other mail, if you give them in when the shop is open or arrive after the post then they will either be busy serving customers and bin them, or they will get put into the pile with the mail and junk mail only to get dumped along with the junk mail at closing time......they should have your flyer at the right time so that they think about it all day...and maybe use your services..

would probably just need to load in about 30 pounds and set the daily number of clicks for each day, this would last maybe a week for only the local area, and for uk wide would last for 3 days or so , it really depends on the keywords that you use how fast the clicks in the account get used up and need topped up...
