hello people!!
i am george, live in crawley, w sussex and i'm just about to buy some training from trade skills for you in crawley.
i would like to find out if the training can stand on its own at all???

i am 47yo and tried many years ago to get a degree in electronics and electrical at glasgow uni, but the electronics part of the course was mental - i had no idea what it was all about - i think because i am really not a Tefal head!!

can anybody tell me if this is any good??

its the domestic installer bronze course, including:

c+g 4141-04 domestic installation;
c +g 2393 Part P regs;
c + g 238 -12 17th edition regs
c + g 2392 -10 inspect + test.

the price for this is substantial and i want to know what could i do with this bronze course?
would it stand on its own or do i need to do the 16 week course they have at TS4Y to make a go of it when applying for jobs?

any advice would be greatly appreciated, got to go to work now....cheers,
george

It will probably be a rip off and will not open up many doors for you in terms of employment, I'm afraid. You need experience and any qualifications you go for need to be done properly, at college, over time.

I agree quck ''crash courses'' are nothing but a nightmare for the you and the trade world. they only benifit the schemes making money out of you.
a fully qualified electrician with no or very little experience is useless to most firms unless your willing to be paid an aprentices wage.
the only way to becoming a safe and relitivly good electrician is by doing the 5year course ie: an apprenticeship. . .

How much is this going to cost you George? I'm betting that you'll not get much change out of £8K and after that you'll still have to spend a boatload of cash on setting up.
You'll be better off thinking about another business.

Central sussex college in Crawley have a very good electrical installation department, might be worth getting in contact with them about it. I did my AM2 there and the C+G 238.. course.

Always good to do a course but no money can teach you the real skills you need you pick them up through years of experience.
I'd look to see if you could find work once you have the skills before you fork out for something that may not lead any where

ta much - i need to do some more searching to get the info - maybe somebody would give me the apprentice position?!
would be better than the crap i do now - thanks to everybody,
george

Hi and welcome.. Those courses are rather frowned upon on this site (understatment). U'd be better off getting in with a local spark labouring and doing a bit here and there picking information up on your way while seing the real electrical world at same time! Then do a night course or day release at college to get ur quals.. Going to take a while but only way youll get respect here

agreed. sparky's mate's job should pay £8 - £10/ hour. learn and earn. do college night school, usually 2 evenings a week.
