Practising Electrician (Qualified - Domestic or Commercial etc)
Had a call the other day to quote for some remedials following an EICR, carried out by somebody else. Customer was a bit suspicious about report, so popped over today to have a look. One bedroom bungalow, wiring approx 35 yrs old. The 'electrician' had condemned a perfectly good condition 3036 board stating no RCD protection, and fuse wire is dangerous and dated.

Also C1 a lighting circuit with no cpc, as "dangerous" and needs rewiring, even though it's all class 2 equipment in use. Had a look at the test readings on the cert, all looked ok with regards to cable condition etc, so just them points really. He quoted over 3 grand for rewiring the lights and replacing the board with a super modern day one. Needless to say, he won't get the job. The customer told me he was at the property at 8.30 and had left by 9.45 saying he was complete, and charged her £200.

What a joke.

It's stories like this that really boil my ****. This is fraud, plain and simple, and ----ers like this need to be brought to book.

Too right. Said she got him off yell, so must be good. I told her as long as he can pay for the ad he's good enough for them. I've told her. I'll do her a new EICR, properly.

75 minutes for the inspection AND report. Sometimes it's half that just to do the report

Not quite. The report came through her door a couple of days later on a computerised certificate. May as well been printed on Andrex.
