I have a small wiring extension to undertake and have an unused 50 metre roll of 2.5mm Twin and Earth (Red and Black). The roll is about 15 years old (its been in the loft), and I was wondering if it is acceptable to use this, or whether it was 'past it sell by date'?

Thanks.

nothing wrong with it. to comply with current regs. you need to sleeve the ends brown/blue.

I think thats quite an interesting question! (Yes, I do realise how sad that makes me sound :goofy:).

Does T&E have a shelf life? 50 years? I guess what Trev has said makes the most sense.

my avatar has just looked at a roll. it says " eat within 3 days of purchase"

I have a roll of 2.5 t&e,50M,which is certainly 30 years old. It has been stored cool and dry,and IR tests fine, but would be a little fraudulent to use on any paying job...

I think it is an Irish Driver product, and i just cannot bring myself to ditch it.....like my box of 12" oval Goodyear tyre patches from 1972 :conehead:

If for your own use, I don't see any problem, as you won't care that it is in red/black colours (which you can sleeve to comply with latest regs). Why, you might even prefer the old colours to make it look like it was installed some years ago! A customer might not be quite so happy, I'd not use it on any paying job myself.
