Hi guys,

I seem to get asked a lot about Smart Meters recently by customers, do they have to have them? Do they actually save electricity etc etc.

Been doing some research and they look pretty bad, below is a link to an article that explains a lot about the radiation levels and the right to refuse one, just in case anyone is interested. Lots of good links to studies etc.

Cheers, Mike

What are ?Smart? Meters? « Stop Smart Meters! (UK)

Loopy,

That looks like one of those looney sites, don't believe everything they say.
And, no they don't. Simply not leaving everything switched on saves electricity. An amazing concept I know!!!

Yep common sense is all you need.!!

Cant see how a smart meter could tell the difference between an oven, kettle or incandescent lamp as they are all resistive loads producing heat...

And if you're worried about radiation from smart meters you better not live in a brick house, eat bananas or go outside...

"24 hrs exposure to RF-radiation has been shown to cause similar effects on DNA as 1,600 chest x-rays"

A chest xray is about 7mSv, so 1600 would equal 11.2 Siverts.....well 2 will probably kill you and standing next to the reactor at C
hernobyl during meltdown was about 50......so if the article is true, lol, smart meters are made from spent fuel rods

If we made regular meters from spent fuel rods, would that stop civilians messing with them?

Nah, probably not.

Read today somewhere .....that these smart meters will only save an average of £26 per year for customers. If and when all installed, they will be out of date. Doubt already creeping in if its worth doing. Watch this space!

How do they save you money?

Pass on that one. I was just reporting on what I read. Is the idea behind it to inform the end user where they could cut down on usage. IE Lights left on unnecessary.
Are you off to THE MATCH this weekend?

Gosh yes I will be at the MATCH this weekend, only one place to be at 13.15on Sunday afternoon, before that a few beers in town before making my way to ground. Been nervous as hell about this game sine our last match against Sheffield Wednesday.

I think many goals will be scored by both sides, either that or a dull 0-0 lol. my team visit Man Utd also on Sunday. Man Utd there for the taking! lol

I'm going 4-1 to us, we have a completely different starting 11 from the one that got spanked 5-0 by them last season. United need defenders, you can sign the DI Maria's, Mata's etc but if you leak goals it's no good having them players.

They dont save you money , you do by informing your daughters to turn lights of when they have left them on for hours whilst not in the room lol or telling them to hurry along when showering with a 9.5kw shower also buying LEDS or CFLs instead of GLS lamps saves some
Then By having direct Debit instead of prepayment saves you some
As well as changing tariffs or supplier when there is a better deal

All the above save me a few hundred of my gas and Electricity

But the smart meter I have and the monitor just help you manage your consumption so far I havnt Died using it from Radiation
