Discuss SMD LED Lighting with Push to Break Switches in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help double check and clarify some stuff for me. I'm in the process of putting LED SMD strip light under some cupboards.

What I've got so far is -

5M LED SMD Strip Lights - Working Input Voltage: 12VDC, Working Current/meter: 0.4A, Output power: 48W /5 Meter
LED Driver - Input Voltage 240VAC - Output 12VDC, 2.5A, 30W Output

The query is that the only Push to Break cabinet switches I can find are a maximum of 2A, would this be enough to wire 2 (parallel for 2 doors) before the LED Driver?

Any help much appreciated!

Pete

The simple answer is no. The switches are not rated for the current before the transformer. In addition, do you really want to run 230V at 2.5A through each of the cupboards?

I was thinking of a reed switch operating a micro relay via a small logic circuit, all in a plastic enclosure on top of the kitchen units...switching the output from the led driver pack....

I'd come across the Reed Switches too but I would have thought it would have been better to have the switch before the LED Drive pack rather than after it/before the LEDs? Wouldn't that mean the driver was always live even if the doors were closed and light off?
