Storage heater burnt plug

Hi all, I have a storage heater (Creda ER500) the mains plug works fine but the off-peak plug has a burn mark on the back.. When I opened up the plug the live wire was badly burnt and the wall socket was cracked. I was surprised to find the 13A fuse had not blown. What could of caused this and is it safe to replace wire/plug and use again?

replace both the plug and socket. usual cause is a poor connection, either in the plug or the socket or the connection between plug and socket. replace both, make sure the terminations are good, then keep an eye on it for a few days. ideally, you would have the circuit tested by a spark with the necessary test gear.

"Off peak plug"...not familiar with this model, but is it connected via a 13 amp socket, as opposed to a 20aDP switch?
