Hiya Lads (and Ladettes)

My son doesn't have access to the internet at the moment and has asked me to find out (good ole Mum) if he can sit an examination for the BS 7671-2008 Update without having to do a course first. He is studying books at home and can't really afford to do a course. Is this something anyone has done and if so how do you go about booking the exam? He lives in Essex but could travel to London. I would really appreciate any advice as I'm not sure how to find this out. Thanks to you. :D

you can take exam only at some ctrs and as a rough guide he would be paying about 50 quid plus vat for the exam. have a ring round some of the private training providers round near you. google electrical courses in your area. most of the colleges will not offer the exam only option so try the tp`s first. it will more than like ly be the full exam 60 q`s that he has to do even if he has his 16th if he is not doing the update course.

The 17th course is very very very easy seriously I aint being big headed, I did a 4 day training course with exam on final day and passed with flying colours.......almost 100% on everything,Its easy to pass when you got the answers infront of you and if i got stuck i just raced to the index at the back of the book!!
I know guys who did home learning and booked exam themselves and passed no probs so depends how confident he is I guess.

If he going to be sitting the exam and no course it is definitely doable, but I would recommend getting your hands on some mock papers just so he can know what to expect and get used to the different sections in the regs book, that will be a big help rather than just going in and having hardly looked through the book.

Best thing to remember is that you should never have to go backwards through the book during the exam - the questions follow the order of the book, and if you find yourself going backwards for an answer....well...you've dropped a -------!
