Been asked to quote for a alarm, No biggy just a run of the mill alarm. However they have insisted on wireless alarm

I normally fit veritas wired alarms. What are the pro's and cons beetwen the two units ? Apart from the abvious instalation time..

I fitted a Response Wireless Alarm near on 16yrs ago to my own house, never had a problem with it. The control box even tells you when your batteries need changing, and which unit it is. (Sequence of flashes). Hardest part was thinking of a code to arm/disarm it. An absolute piece of cake to fit. Very pleased.

I have fitted a couple of visonic wireless systems with no problems or comebacks.
Very easy to fit. Programme it all at home using the battery to power it, then just install pre programmed into the customers house.
These have been average sized three bed properties so can't comment on the range in bigger properties.

Cheers Guys.. Its only a bungalow and the pir requiment is very low. 2/3 at the most. As for the safety standards are they as secure as the wired ones?

Some of them do have wireless hacking detection in the software, if anyone tries, it just sets the alarm off.
The basic alarm only have a timer which detects a signal and if its still there after 1 mintute it sets the alarm off, problem is by setting youll get alot of false alarms....Response is proberbly the worst out there, the old models can easily be defeated by using a any transmitter in the 418-433mhz range the best is a remote door bell, just pess the door bell button and walk in. Made Watchdog programme in 1996

i come across 20+ year old wired alarm installs that are still working fine.

id like to see a wireless system last.

im against wireless, usually more comebacks due to battery's running out etc..

I like the idea of wireless and did try a Risco one it was pretty good , but batteries are a pain, easy to change in PIRs but vibration detectors ......i'm so ham fisted i end up breaking the device !

Wired is my 1st choice.

I guess its down to the situation , customer demands wireless because of disruption you just offer your professional point of view and point out that it will cost more in the long term - they make the choice and pay your bill whichever they choose. Everyone is happy !
