Hi guys, hope some one can help us out a bit. On a job at the mo and working in the downstairs shower room. Providing fused spur and fan isolator to meet manufacturers rules on fusing fan. The problem is I can't get spur and isolator in usual place above door due to wood above ceiling and coving, plus the hallway is decorated and customer does not want damage. Was going to put spur and isolator on wall upstairs on landing above skirting on surface boxes as this is not decorated yet but they don't want the wall chased, but I am a bit concerned it is accessible when maintenance is carried out. Was thinking of using a isolator with lock out so when maintenance work is taking place the isolator was locked in the off position. Have looked in the regs and in building regs but can't seem to see anything that says this cannot be done so was just wondering what your thoughts were?

thanks in advance

Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice, did think about the 2.25M rule but the customer is on about lowering the ceiling and not sure by how much, so would prefer to stay out of the bathroom really just in case I end up in a zone, plus the customer is doing the tiling and wants a clear run without having to cut wall tiles around boxes. Think I will just stick with what I was going to do and note on cert. Just wanting to clarify as this will be a minor job for my assesment. Got the major sorted and was just wanting to clarify that this is ok as normally I have only seen the switch gear for fans above the doorway as you enter into a bath/shower room. But as this is a bit of a difficult job this was the only way I could see me meeting relevent instructions/ regs. Anyway thanks for the help to who responded.

When you put isolation or switching in "unusual" positions I would always recommend putting a label on the isolator saying what its for. The low cost Brother printers are ideal for this and such detail will go down well with customers.

above door ? outside bathroom ? if not fast fix box in ceiling outside if below 2.25m ive done before. or if bathroom is big 3m away from zone 1 you can have a skt on a rcd :)

Thanks for the heads up on labeling Murdoch, I have already got a brother label printer and put labels on. never thought about putting isolator on ceiling. But as I done the job now with the fused spur and isolator upstairs drilled behined skirting board and surface boxes mounted on wall above skirting board. But will definitely bear that in Mind if I come up against this again. Once Again Thanks to all who responded with advice.

A good way of showing your appreciation, along with an updated answer as above is using the "thanks" button - at the bottom left of the brown bar!
