baumatic extractor hood faulty

my daughter just bought a kitchen from a kitchen company thats closing down.
they included a baumatic BT066ME extractor hood but nothing happens when i turn it on?
theres power going through to the connector blocks then nowhere else,
on the switches are extra terminals but i dont want to move wires about and damage the unit.
is it possible the power light is a type of fuse?
if yes what amp will it be

on the unit near the 2 switches is a red power on light.
is this light similar to a fuse?
as in if its blown the unit wont work?
does it have any amp value?

the light is generally just a neon. does this come on when you power the unit up?

If it looks like a fuse it's probably a neon lamp in which case it's only an indicator not a protective device.

no nothing lights up. the unit is brand new never been used, i just cant see anything wrong with it at all

Easy way to tell is if it'swired with a live on one side and a neutral on the other it's not a fuse.A fuse will always have a live in and a live out.

when you say there is power to it, how are you measuring that. of using a voltstick or ( perish the thought ) a neon driver, it could be trhat the neutral is not present.

il check the current to the light tomorrow as im at home now and daughter at work. but theres power to the connector bloak but no power to the hood lamps or motor

so, if you have a L and N, and the neon doesn't light. then the fault has to be before the neon ( assuming the neon itself is good.). suspect connection/s, possible screw clamped on insulation.

You could get an extension lead,suitably fused and wire that temporarily to the cooker hood

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence so please don't take this the wrong way. Did you check the installation manual? There's often packing pieces and sometimes they tape or otherwise disable the safety switch if it has one.

no offence taken, theres no sign of any safety switch that ive seen apart from the one that when you remove the filter cover, it disables the hood, which is inplace when i tried it

this has really got me beat, as i normally repair televisions, hifis, computers etc. but this is confusing

Are you saying you've got power to 1 side of the mains connector but nothing out of it ? or have you actually got power going to the switch bank ?

double check connections and check that the safety switch for the cover is closing properly also......
