Hi guys,

A friend of mine who used to be an electrician until very recently has boxes and boxes full of commerical installation parts from all kinds of different electrical installation jobs he's in the the past few years Lights and all the various controls and switches that go with them. Alarm system components snd detectors. So much more as well that I dont fully know what they're all for but they are mostly brand new, unused and in their boxes. I'm trying to get them sold for him and there is a lot to go. Does anyone know the best place to take it other than taking pictures of each 1 and putting them up on ebay/facebook which so far hasnt gone far...?

Any help would be great,

thanks

You.need to know what you have and itemise it. Then sell to whoever. Try local buy sell sites as job lot , try on here as job lot. Its not worth what ya think.

My garage is gradually filling up with left over unused parts, mostly fairly low value. I did try selling a few items on eBay some while back, but rapidly concluded the effort was not worth the result. I could easily spend more based on my labour rate in listing, packing, shipping than I'd get in return. I concluded I'd be better off to just work a few extra days and just bin or give away the stuff.

Aye but some people like to wheel and deal, I bought load of accessories @20p from a wholesaler, sold straight away for 50p each. And the guy still has accessories left from years ago. Can't sell them.

It really depends on what you have - could be a load of old CFL/PL lighting not worth anything now, or could be a load of RCBO's that are redundant or near redundant and worth 3 figures a pop even 2nd hand.

Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated. I think I need to catalogue it all and post it on here and on 2nd electrician parts websites.....there is a lot to get through so will take some time to itemize everything. Thanks again :)

why not list a proportion and see how it goes.

Old mcbs , rcbos, mccbs, rcds and main switches fetch a tidy sum on eBay , cheap to post and easy to package.
bigger stuff not so easy to get rid off, as you are limited to collection only.
some new stuff sells better than others and expect to get only a fraction of the retail price.
any old junky items give away via gumtree Facebook etc. its amazing what people will collect...

Re items like that I'd advise selling them to a company that specialises in the sale of obsolete devices. You might not get as much as on fleabay, but it will be quicker and you transfer the risk to them.

I have seen some old SquareD breakers , Eaton MEM breakers Mccbs sell for ÂŁ30-ÂŁ100 a piece

some serious money in obsolete gear

Often driven by mix'n'match concerns which could have varying degrees of realism. Although given the price of, say, Fusebox products, sometimes it could be cheaper to just rip and replace.

Fair point. Although if you replace a complete board you are involving yourself with all the connected circuits, rather than just the one MCB for the circuit you are adding (as a typical example).

Quite a lot of these old industrial / commercial boards are a nightmare with dozens of alterations over the years , very few sparks will want to change the complete board and the utter ball ache that goes with it if the don't have to.
A 50 quid second hand MCB off Ebay is very often the best and most practical way to go
