My missus too. It was. ( her NHS pay) frozen, years ago. i think she gets 2% in two years time. Work out what inflation have been over those 5 years and you end up with a substantial payCUT. And a sore bum. Because everything else has gone up.

I set my ( self employed) rates as is, 5 years ago. i have dropped them 5% since. With inflation thats a bag of sh0!e.

I'm self employed too and wouldn't trade that for being employed at time soon.

The problem isn't the economy as such. The problem is the mindset of the country. Office managers and unskilled paper pushers are more thought if than skilled tradesmen and women.

That won't change anytime soon.

Something has got to give. We as a nation need to stand up and say enough is enough.

However change has to start at home.

We have to stop ( me included) spending money on consumer products the apples the samsungs etc.

Vote with your feet only buy your diesel from a local garage screw shell etc.

That's just to start. How many of you are willing to start saying enough is enough ?

Just my thoughts anyway

No mate, we need a Revolution, starting with those who make the rules up, we need to hang a few of these barstewards from a few tall lamp posts

No other country is shy in wanting revolution , so maybe we have got to much too loose
making yous moaning ......... :)

Murdoch you speak sense I like that.

Spark 68 we definitely need something to happen. Too many posh toffs dipping their hand in the pot.

No party is in touch with the working man.

Without us the country stops. So why the hell aren't we valued.

Do you think that the French workers would put up with this ?
I would bet a pound of sugar to a pinch of **** that there would be riots and burning sheep thrown through the mobs windows if they tried this crap there, you are correct though the Brits moan a lot but do sod all about it

1 rule for one and 1 rule for another..

Like I got £400 fine and 5 points for speeding , then you watch motorway cops or street crime and some guy is over the limit , crashed into 4 cars , mounted the kerbs and gets £200 fine and banned for 3 years and he's been caught 5 times already..

they know now to hit the working class as thu pay up

Germany do well but there's no minimum wage set yet.

Every country has fors and against's .. But I can't see myself buying a house or raising my children comfortably .. What's the soloution? have more and leave her.. Lol

I don't have all the answers, wish I did to challenge the toffs in power.

We need a working man to stick his neck on the line and break into politics. I'm willing to back anyone who says no to immigration. No to scroungers. Forget all this human rights rubbish.

I don't want to just sit here and take it. I want my little one to grow up proud of his country.

This is what UKIP are wanting to sort out.

The difference with the Germans though, is that they put their indigenous workers before outsiders, and require you to use their qualification system and speak their language before you would even get a sniff of a skilled position, unlike here.

Liking this convo. As someone said earlier supply and demand is a big one, aswel as dumbing down the trade. Would be interested to see some stats on how many electricians (one man bands) are joining the industry each month / year. some of these training centres are pumping out 1000's of 'electricians' every few weeks

I'm in Scotland. The part p Electrical Trainee stuff doesn't affect me.
what I have noticed recently is a load of Irish and English contractors doing the bigger jobs in my area.
what this does is make the big boys in my area who lose these jobs come down a level with suicidal prices.
which makes the middle level boys in my area come down a level.
which makes me get squeezed by far bigger outfits than me price jobs on 1993 rates never mind 2013.
if u get the picture my rates haven't gone up in five years and I can't see them going up either.
so much so that I'm thinking of doing something else after 26 years at the trade

Ukip have some good ideas. Just don't think they are the answer long term. It needs a working man to change things.

These toffs are legalised criminals they feed us rubbish and we believe it. We are a zombie nation.

I am passionate about my country. Sick of walking down the road and being intimidated by big groups of piles or Latvians etc.

At work they oi me when they have a problem with their machine. Sorry but please, thank you, excuse me should be the first part of our language these immigrants learn.

Not so. I've worked as an unskilled paper pusher and it was hell - you're there to work a set amount of hours - clock on times are heavily monitored, and forget having a laugh, in case you offend someone.

Putting a 'working man' in charge sounds like a nice idea but how can you guarantee he won't become corrupted with power, dip his hand in the till and disappear from the public view to go back to pulling cables or changing tyres where he's known only as 'Dave'?
Again, having the guy in charge making the trades a really cushy career sounds great, but it's bad enough as it is with everyone leaving IT to rush out and buy a van - make it an even more attractive option and there'll be an even bigger shortage of doctors, dentists etc. Why spend a fortune on university education when you can do a 5 week course and pass yourself off as a tradesman for similar money?

Recently in the press there's been an uproar about the amount of MPs employing members of their family; what do you think would happen if anyone cared about tradesmen doing the same, ie employing their missus to answer the phone and their boy as an apprentice?

Anybody can become corrupted with power. That's an unfortunate human trait.

Paper pushers are more thought of I disagree. They don't play with dangerous electricity yet they get paid more to sit there and give us a hard time about forgetting to clean up some mess when we are under pressure to get machines fixed.

University is becoming a joke. It used to be the elite that went. Now it's any tom dick or Harry doing ridiculous degrees in fashion.

I know people that have a degree in music working in tesco (no disrespect to anyone who works!) however there student loan won't be repaid til they are earning 21 grand a year.

We need a tough working man in charge I fully believe that. Just my opinion but life's about opinions.

we used to be the top of the tradesman tree due to the wide range of stuff we had to know.
didnt count for much really cos we have always been under valued compared to a suit.
always have always will be.
now due to my pet hate of "the specialist" its totally deskilled the trade.
do you know how to rewire a 2 bed council house or a 20 bed mansion? yes
do you know how to shop fit? yes
do you know how to wire a factory? yes
do you know how to fix mrs smiths iron? yes
do you know how to fault find ANY installation yes
thats just not me answering yes it should be any spark thats served their time
get my drift???
1/4 trained chancers telling everyone that they are electricians is the problem
in my day you were an electrician or not . no domestic /commercial/ industrial sub sections
in fact your gaffer would have the above on the side of his van because he did do it all.

Spot on there fella, A Electrical Trainee will only be able to carryout just one of the above........................... Maybe!

It's not just sparks, it's everywhere. With the sparks, it's supply and demand. Too many sparks for too few jobs, the price goes down.

Agencies aren't ripping people off, they are all in competition with each other making £1-2 an hour off each operative.

You won't get any ball rolling, nor will anyone else. That's the way it is now and I can't see it improving.

Want to earn more money? Find another career.

Sorry mate.

Thank you Voltz, you saved me the trouble of writing the exact same thing.
