It's me;)
Hi all, another silly question from the forum pest:D.I've been looking at them & just wondered if fitting fire rated downlighters (most of them boast 90 minute fire rated),so long as all thermal insulation around has been removed does this mean there is no need for fitting a firehood above them or should a firehood still be fitted to meet regulations & piece of mind.A simple one for you but if any question comes up in my mind,i post:o

Debatable point but doesn't the fire rating refer to the integrity of the unit for a fire in the room below? Possibly not but I've noticed these lights get bl:):)dy hot when they've been on for a while and I usually figure adding a fire hood for those in enclosed and combustible locations is safer? As I say, debatable....

What a lot of people fail to understand is that, as you say, they are designed to stop the spread of fire to the room above.

They are not designed to not catch fire, or set anything else alight that it comes into contact with.

I believe they run at about 200oC when lit.
