On a rewire I am quoting for a flat- the old c/u is in a tiny cupboard in communal hallway
planning on moving new c/u inside flat (prob 1m to the right and 1.5m upwards)-this will be inside flat front door

was hoping to find a small in size 80a/100a switch fused isolator (non combustible) to be on the safe side if the tails from the old c/u position to new position may be close to 3m mark.

found this one which is d: 109mm h:303mm w 179mm
then mmt4 trunking between the two with 25mm tails +16mm earth

literally so cramped in this low level cupboard!!!!

was thinking to just do the c\u high enough so the tails are dead on 3m :joker:
If it is that close hardly think anybody is going to get the tape measure out.

Which DNO area? They don't all state 3m. The last meter move I had in a ukpn area their paperwork stated 4m

Generally when the length of meter tails is stated it includes from the head to the meter and from meter to CU and not just from meter to CU.

The meter tails should be as short as possible. Different metering companies have different policies but the length should always be less than 3 metres of cable from the cut-out through the metering equipment to the consumer unit. A example may be 1m of cable from the cut-out to the meter, then 1.5m from the meter to the consumer unit. The meter tail cable size must be consistent. BS7671 Reg. 434.2.1 gives some guidance. If the consumer unit is required to be further away, then a switch-fuse unit should be installed close to the meter and a sub-main compliant with BS7671.

The above is taken from the association of meter operators......for some reason I cant post a link but if you type association of meter operators in to google and click on their site, click stake holder info and then length of meter tails.

What's a metre between friends, if Murdoch has his wish, it will soon be 39 & 3/8 inches
