I just wondered if anyone else has snip trouble like me.No matter how careful I am I eventually snip something live and ruin another pair of snips, sometimes not for years.Last time was when I powered up part of a building from an extension reel while doing a cu change, and forgot it was still plugged in.

Don't you feel just a little bit embarrassed to admit this on a public forum?

Once, I'll be honest. The other guy assured it was dead, numb nuts me. As said, prove dead at all times, that said, they're canny for stripping insulation now.

snipped a smoke alarm tri-core in a loft recently, all supply for the flat below completely isolated during a rewire, alarm powered by landlords separate supply with rewireable fuses. massive bang and spark off a 6a lighting fuse! nice hole in nice cutters too.

Whey aye, feeling better I hope?

Wheyyerbugger man!!

The Medication seems to have things under control for the moment, but this thing is progressive and is something I'm not likely to get better from, so we do our best to enjoy the good days and try not to think about the bad ones.

Plumbing is a good move .... your tools get wet when you cock up so no expensive payout for new ones ...well unless you smell gas!!!:saddam:

It is! ............ better if you get to work on gas and do some courses on fault finding in boilers.

Fixing boilers can be quite lucrative and you're not crawling about under floors or upaheight in lofts either!

Fitted a socket for my sister and had to do the under the floorboard crawl.... i said i could smell gas while down their so she rang emergency no' and turned gas off.... guy went down to check it out and BOOOM!! several floorboards were raised and he came out a bit dazed to say the least ... glad i think we had turned it off or it could have been worse ;O

Silly man should have vented it first and used his gas sniffer to make sure it was clear before going down there.

It's a bit like the sparks safe isolation thing.

That's unusual of you, to turn a post into something sexual.. :)

anyone who says they've never snipped a live cable and blown a hole on their cutters is either a newbie, a liar, or suffering from altzeimers.

Around these parts we called them Geordie lamps.

You know the controversy surrounding the who invented the light "bulb" - Swan or Eddison?

Well, the same argument raged over the miners'safety lamp - Humphrey Davey or George Stephenson as they were both independently working on the same thing at the same time.

Youre more than welcome Tel.

It was good for me to give the old grey matter a good workout - it gets a bit stale sitting here doing nowt.

Hopefully you've got a sketch / drawing of the job now that you can use again because that sort of job will be coming up again.

not a sketch, mate. it's indelibly imprinted in my brain. now i see how logical it is, i feel more confident with fault finding . as they say. every day's a school day.
