Discuss The Great Poly or Mono Debate....Part 1001.... in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Is the customer desire for Mono Panels.......driven by salesmen or actual fact......

If mono are better why is it that on every single Photon Yield Testing Report I have seen at least 15 of the top yielding panels are polys...

The last one I saw had a mono at number one....the next ten were polys....then one mono....then four polys....

Am I missing something..........

Salesmen

Aesthetics do play a part, though if we look back at the history, at one time only mono's were stocked by the distibutors, and the higher prices gave them higher margins.... So it was a case of what's available to some extent. And at 43p the salesman where after the hoghest prices possible to give then the best margins so upsold mono's

Having talke about aesthetics we did on 30kWp b/b poly and it looks as good as any b/b mono..

and consultants.

we lost a 75kWp install recently largely because some energy consultant had told the customer that mono were best, and we stuck to our guns and tried to explain why poly was the better choice for them.

We have 15 x Ying Li Poly 245 next to 15 x Ying Li Mono 250 on our office roof (10 deg pitch) both on Stecca 3.6kW inverters. Taking difference in systen sizes into account they are within 1% of each other in terms of energy, the mono cost more.
