I've been asked to carry out some work in a riser tower of an office. In the riser there are two chimneys (metal, cylinder). The riser is approx five stories high and has a light on each floor. In the riser, the floors are metal grills with a ladder connecting all the floors.

The existing cables, run in metal conduit are faulty, presumeably due to age. Someone has run some new cable, 1.5 t&e grey PVC/PVC, clipped direct as a temporary measure. Does this cable comply with regs? Does this need to be enclosed? The riser doesn't appear to get hot, it's OK standing in it.

Thanks,

Rick

It would depend mainly on the ambient temperatures, and if this has an effect that would have resulted in a larger conductor being used (Ca rating factor).
If the location is strictly under control of skilled/instructed persons (or competent of course) then it's installation should be acceptable as long as it isn't subject to other forms of external influence.

Consider mutual detrimental influences etc...
