Just been called to this beauty as previous electrician wanted more money ( in cash) up front and walked to quote "cut his losses".

Mounting board has been removed. Meter has been moved by said electrician. And yes it has been wedged in pushing the gas feed across.

I wish I could say it's a Photoshop job. However this is reality.

Looks like someone didn't look at it close enough when they quoted / surveyed.
Bet they were horrified when they opened the cupboard FOR THE FIRST time and realised what space they had to work with.

Looks like a shelf below, with cutout under?
Is there room to remove the shelf and lower the meter, get the energy supplier in to lower the meter?

SSE have already been out and are somewhat annoyed. Apparently he removed the wooden mounting board as it was illegal and needed to be metal!

Existing 4 fuse unit is to the right at 90 degrees. Why a 10 way split board? ???

Couple more from the same contracting team.
Mixture of trades.

The last one of the switch is the access they cut.

Half of me wants to walk away, however, these people are in serious distress and have already been stung for 4.5k for the boiler and 1.7 on the rewiring.

And. Yes, they are a member of a trade body.

Should have added. He tried to bill extra for lifting the upstairs sockets as that was the law now. However, that didn't apply to downstairs.

Lights are all in 1mm.

I think he'd exceeded his skill level by the time he put the 2 (or is it 3) screws in the C.U

And what was he going to do with the "Don't know" cable?
I know, he doesn't know what he was going to do with it.

It's always been a mystery as why some people spend more time doing things wrong than they would have doing them right.

Nowadays you can blame it on U-tube videos but what was their excuse before.

Well at least the galvanised box had a grommet.

If these idiots are registered with them then definitely yes, and send the pictures. I don't know what would come of it if anything but you could give them some hassle !

I think with the advent of more and more LED lights and Tungsten and Halogen being phase out we will see more and more lighting circuits in 1.0mm, maybe in the end going even smaller, the advent of very low Amp RCBO's is just around the corner.

I agree Mike, I already use 3a mcbs if possible (it nearly always is) to get around my perennial argument with my assessor regarding protection for fans.

They really should be offering 3A C-curve MCB and RCBO now.

Assuming max 1.5A operating current and so 3A C-curve at 15-30A magnetic trip point it looks OK for LEDs, even simultaneously switched I suspect. And for a typical floor of 5 rooms that is about 70W of LEDs per room, plenty bright enough!

Currently the OSG Table 7.1(i) has a length limit for 6A C-curve on 1mm at 65m, so going to 3A C-curve would be 130m with is very unlikely to be a problem for one breaker's range of rooms.

The smallest dual pole RCBO I have found is Hager 6Amp its some way towards it I suppose.

Don't know about RCBOs pc, but Contactum do a 3A, C curve MCB.

It seems easy to get MCB below 6A for industrial style boards, but not so many make them for home CU. Certainly not seen RCBO below 6A :(

Customer has to make the report to the NICEIC. If the original spark is AC then the platinum promise guarentee will apply
