Hi everyone

I have been asked to look at the sign lights not working on the forecourt of a petrol filling station (flourescant lamps for price on pole). Apparently not working since recent PIR carried out by specialist company.

Do you need any special qualifications as this is a filling station? what would be classed as a hazardous area just the pumps? or the whole forecourt?

This could be as simple as a starter ot tube but wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any regulations before getting involved.

Any advice welcome

If the electrical equipment in the sign doesn't have Ex enclosures or fittings, which I am sure it doesn't, then I think you can work on it safely as a normal installation.

In my experience the pole sign is normally outside the zones and the older style ones were simply crude fluorescent tubes on clip holders, the station should have a copy in the risk assessment of the zones I would refer to this before proceeding.
