Sent to a job today to carry out a pir on the stair lighting & mains supply for the door entry system the problem I have is that both are supplied from an unmetered supply via a gec safelip bs88 fuse rated at 15 amps. Does a main isolator need to be fitted or does this fuse count as one.

A BS 88 fuse can be used as isolation but not for emergency or functional switching so that is ok as far as your PIR is concerend.

Though the un metered supply might be an interesting story

perhaps it's unmetered to the tenant's meters but supplied from a landlord's meter elsewhere. so as the usage is paid for by the landlord, not the tenants.
