Just looked at a domestic call out. Storage heaters have stopped working. Next to the consumer unit is a Horstmann 80A timer clock, you know the typical steam punk Bakelite. This looks burnt out. Any recommendations for a replacement. Not familiar with this type of circuit arrangement.

If the unit is no longer available, a new timeclock and a contactor might be your way forward.

i'd be inclined to go with post #2 and use a lower rated timer to energise a contactor.

What is the total load of the s/htrs? Are you sure the t/switch belongs to the customer and not the DNO?

Picture would be good.

it is between customers CU and the storage heater fuse box. I couldn't imagine the DNO would have equipment there, but you never know the history. Flats were built in 1950/60s. All the meters are in a switch room downstairs. If they are not on an economy tariff I'll just take it out and replace with an isolation switch.

No it sounds like its a single riser that is split between the General consumer unit and an off peak timer , this would be the customers equipment , the off peak meter is located in a separate cupboard elsewhere , I would say the same as Tel , replace old timer with a timer and suitably sized contactor for the off peak board and set it the same time or within the off peak times of the off peak meter...
