People seem to mock things like MEWPS and IPAF courses because they have been driving/building the items in question for years. Yet things like looking out for overhead hazards are taught on these courses for a very good reason which maybe over looked by those who have not done the courses.

I have been involved with the training and design,of both courses and equipment,in this industry.

You can instruct operatives on each part of the operation, inspections, assessment etc,but it only becomes successful training if they consider ALL the parts of that instruction.

Most of the bad accidents i have had the sad duty of investigating, have occurred due to the operator failing to notice what is happening at the top, when operating the ground controls,or,failing to notice what is happening on the ground, when operating from the extended platform.

Occasionally,a fellow who might work in construction, sustains an electric shock, from an overhead power line, whilst waving their carbon-fibre roach pole about...

It's a dangerous world :bobby:

ouch
sadly neither one of them looked up when one should have been watching.
doing the job so often people tend to get complacent and not pay attention.
that's usually when the accidents happen.
they got belted hard
even if they ran away im sure there was some injury there.
you could say that its gods way of saying wake up
