Hello,

Done some work at a care home recently and they have asked me to put 8 additional phone points around there care home. Is there a limit to how many phone points can be run off the master socket??
Ive tried to read up about it and some people mention the REN??
Any help would be great.
Its going to be used mainly so they can get good wireless signal in most places.

Thank you.

should have a max. of REN 4 on an installation. phones should come with the REN on them, usually REN1. so if there were 8 phones plugged in , you might have a problem. don't forget, they'll have a router or 3 plugged in as well.

Don't think there's a limit of amount of sockets as such, it's normally a maximum of 4 REN, each piece of connected equipment having a REN value.
Connect more than 4 REN and you're running the risk of ringing problems.

I dont think there after different phone lines, 1 phone line with a few phones on it, and a few wireless routers.

If it's just for wi-fi you might be better off using some kind of booster or repeater rather than trying to plug more into the phone line.
I found this article, which seems quite informative.

Agreed ^^^^^. There would be no point in having additional phone sockets for wireless (assuming you mean wireless broadband). You can only have one modem connected to the adsl line at any one time.

usually with that many points or more you would generally have an exchange that would handle the calls and ringing to each of the handsets.

as hes talking about wireless it sounds like ethernet wifi not phone wireless ?

No harm in providing 8 additional points as long as they dont plug 8 additional phones in them lol. maybe they just want them in certain areas for the convenience of being able to situate a temporary phone there.
