Practising Electrician (Qualified - Domestic or Commercial etc)
Had a bit of a scrap on site yesterday with the site foreman after the plumber decided to go drilling underfloor heating pipes about 20mm away from my main rise of CU cables - and there's a lot of them!

I wanted to, and can (still) see no good reason not to, move the plumbing feed over one joist, problem solved. Anyway, all got a bit heated (pun intended) so off I trudge to get the BRB and thrust 528.3 under his nose - at which point he says "that's fine then, we'll just wrap some insulation around your cables"!!!!!

The reason that I put bRb in bold above is because the new wording in bGb is a little different, and does not use the word insulation. Unfortunately it was the BRB I had with me, not the BGB.

why do you think most plumbers are bald? when their heads not up their arse, it's down a bog.

and to think we trust them with a blow torch and gas supplies. No wonder they need a Gas Safe!!

ain't that just true!!!

Wish me luck - am going to be telling the site agent that I'm calling in the BCO to inspect, and issue me with some sort of indemnity paperwork!! Had a long conversation with an architect friend of mine earlier about the pro's and con's and he's set me on the straight path.

And as of today.....this job goes from bad to worse!! I didn't have any wiring information for the heating system, and none in the plans, so off I trot to Nu-Heat who's system it is (as conveniently they're just up the road from site).

Almost get myself a mini training course and a coffee for an hour, but what transpires? It's a 12kW system being delivered, 40A start-up and 49A running, no diversity applicable as it's got instantaneous water heating as part of it. Add to that around 4A for the rest of the control and pumping jizz, 6A of water treatment and another 8A for a water bore pump on continuous duty, plus another amp for a sewerage pump and you get 68A of continuous load before you've even entered the front door. It's an 80A incomer FFS!!!

Looks like the sparks are in trouble again for showing other trades the correct way to do the job just goes to show we are still the cream of the trades
