Complete novice here I;m afriad but just have a quick question.

I'm just in the prcess of chasing out my sockets but the construction of the wall is one I;ve not come accross before. The blocks look like they are made of plaster with large holes running through the middle of them. Any idea what these blocks are and advice on teh best way of fixing in to them would be great.

They are only the thickmness of a single skin wall.

Thanks

Hi xfon,

I know the stuff you mean - a layer of plaster then a honeycomb inside sort of thing? Can't remember what it's called though.

If the wall's getting tiled, I use gyproc boxes in them as normal. If it's not getting tiled, I still use gyproc boxes, but parp some plaster in too.

Regards

High tower, your right, its like the clay blocks used on the continent but they appear to be constructed of a plaster type material. I don;t think gyproc boxes would be suitable unfortunately. It's just a case of finding a secure fixing which is going to be hard due to the large holes running down through the blocks.

Get a piece of wood to go in the back of the hole for the box to screw to, to stop the wood dropping and to secure the wood in place, pump some expanding foam in there first and push the wood into place.

Im not trying to be funny, its simple.Use a Standard galvanised box knock out all holes, apply uni-bond(Pva) to the block work, use either prompt cement or hardwall to "bond the box in".wait for it to go off slightly then simply use a small scraper or chisel to remove the excess muck from inside the box. When you squeeze the box in, as it squeezes through the holes it has a sort of vacuum effect.
