Never heard of that word before. Had to look it up. Found this, which says new ones cover more of a spectrum. New bolometer is faster, simpler, and covers more wavelengths - https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2018-06-bolometer-faster-simpler-wavelengths.amp
