What happens if a board does set on fire. I did a new install in 2009-2010 and forgot that I had installed a wylex board.
Today the Bloke called me to say his C/U started buzzing then set on fire. I attended with in a hour and the board was burnt and a fire had started.
I changed the board and he's okay as no damage was done to his kitchen. But its very lucky that he was in the house.
My only concern is that it looks like it was the 32amp breaker that was at fault (16amp is the highest breaker in the recall)unless the 16amp that is next to it generated enough heat to set the 32 amp a light. I've not split the board down I've left it as it was. Everything has been retested and the results and within 0.03 from the test on Jan 2010.
What would you guys and gal's recommend me to do. The man lives alone the board as been okay for nearly 3 years. he uses very little power,
after the power was reinstated everything when back on with out any problem. I expected a faulty appliance, but there was nothing?

ok main point is you replaced board done checks and cable ok, before we all jump down wylex throats we have to consider if a bad connection on mcb would cause that much damage?
not sure? looks like burnt from inside out so not sure of mechanics inside.give it up to someone better

That looks like a loose MCB to me, looks like the 32 not the 16 was where it all started.

I'm not pointing fingers, I have only seen the picture. About 2 years ago I took this one out of a house, fortunately there was no fire but it was close. It had been in for 7 years but the bottom screw was not tight and had been arking since it was put in. If you are 100% sure that everything in that board was correctly tightened, get that letter off to Wylex.

Looking at the MCB's I would put my money on the source for the fire coming from inside the 16A MCB. It might be worth cracking the MCB's open and comparing the internal damage. If your looking to claim/complain I'd consider recording yourself while you open them.

Cheers

I first thought when looking at the board it was a loose connection on the 32 amp side, but looking at the bottom of the board this morning I noticed it does look like it could of been the 16amp at fault

i would send the complete CU, as it is, to wylex and let them determine the cause. you might ewven get reimbursed for the cost of the replacement. worst that could happen is that you are out of pocket for the postage.

Have you checked the codes on the MCB's to see if they are in the recall batch.

As stated the batch only included 6 10 & 16 type B breakers.
