Discuss #~#~# Test-Meter Prize Competition #~#~# in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Most of us can not compare to the "big boy installs" but we can all have a go and it is a fair competition and a bit of fun for us all.

May be Test-Meter can offer another prize or two???? Cough, cough, wink, wink

It is cheeky for me to ask (as they have done so much already) but I'm sure Mr C at Test-Meter can sort something out????

Typical for us:

Red Yellow Blue? This looks like a old install haha

I've got loads on mate, should have been starting 2 x new builds (3 bed detached) on Monday but the builders have knocked it back until a week on Wednesday. Taking this time off to re-point my own house (and play golf lol, dont tell Mrs M that bit). Going to have to hire out a 10m tower to do the top of the house but it needs doing before the winter.

As for GS, he is well. Calmed down a lot and getting some good work in. He'll be around at my house next week helping with the re-pointing (although he does not know it yet  ). GS owes me a favor or six, time to call them in. We will have that scaffold up in no time and get the job done. Any one that has worked with GS will know what I mean. He doesn't mess about that man.

Good to hear, is that. Could have done with him on that rewire, he'd have loved it with some of the grub provided by the lady of the house.
Glad to hear it's going well.
Had some real fun at a local works where I usually do all the work....new owner got some cowboys in...laughable standards.
I'll pm you, when I can, with some details.... I'm sure you'll p*** yourself....I would, if it didn't make me cry.

ps. Say hello to him for us.

Just been on the phone with GS, passed him your regards.

IPF, if you have a job on that you need a hand with, give me a call and GS maybe able to jump on it with/for you? I&T is his specialty, just watch the bull in the china shop go! GS is fun to work with lol.

As for the comp, post up your pictures.

Wish I'd have got some of those boiler houses, years ago, with dozens of pyro's termed in control panels......but I'd have had to take the photos with me Kodac.

We used to change the tooling over on a couple of the welding robots about every 3 weeks but could only fault find once it had been installed which meant downtime/lost production.
I built the panel to test/simulate the sensors, solenoid valves etc. prior to the changeover, I designed it so it could also be used as a manual welding fixture if the robot cell was down.

This photo make no sense to me whatsoever!! We have a full on flanged EEX'd panel that i imagine is mounted within a hazardous area, and directly underneath we have two bog standard metal clad twin sockets??

So Ollie, please explain what the hell's going on here???

The Exd Enclosure you are refering to is infact a Combined pressurisation, fire and gas panel. Now this is mounted inside the winch cabin itself which, once all the cabin doors are closed we can purge for a minimum of 3 minutes the unit to create a positive air pressure inside the unit compared to the outside. This means that gasses wont be ables to enter the cabin, once purging is completed the inside of the cabin is then deemed as a safe area and therefore the safe power contactor inside the cpfg panel is energised and allows non Ex circuits to be used. If there is a pressure loss or a fire, then all Non Ex circuits turn off.

The only circuits that are Non Ex and are still power in this event are the Intrinsic safe (very low current) circuits - Smoke/Gas detectors, alarms and break glass etc.

Thats the basics to why,

Ollie

I was brought up with intrinsically safe circuits as an apprentice. They don’t make life easy.

Knowing that if you make a cock up you’ll be sat on a cloud with a harp makes you take that extra little bit of care.

It's been 4 weeks Paul. My install is clearly the best and I would like to know what I have won? :smile5:

..............

ps.. Joking! thought I better edit in case any thought i was beng serious!

Hi guys, time to reel this one in but I'd like to say what a pleasure it is to see the quality and diversity of the electrical installations submitted.

What this thread has proven is that there are still professional electricians out there which are viewing this forum, but are definitely not as vocal as perhaps we'd like them to be. It would be refreshing to see more pictures regardless of whether there's a carrot being dangled on a string.

With reference to the point that E54 picked up on Ollie's intrinsically safe installation - this certainly makes for more interesting forum content than the usual 'mates shed is 20m away, I'm a spark but can I spur from a socket'; you know what I'm getting at!

Because of the number and quality of uploads, we're going to supply a couple of extra prizes.

1st - Insulation Resistance Tester - Ollie133cup: For the reasons above and for a superb response to E54's feedback. Stick around on this forum, you're welcome and I'm sure the elders will agree.
2nd - 115 Digital Multimeter - HHD: A good quality installation. And from other forum content, I believe you're in this trade for the right reasons and not because you've been sold by a news paper advert - good on you.
3rd - Calbox Calibration Checkbox - Smity: Some tasty conduit work and a very neat consumer unit installation. Again, please stick around on the forum.

Please can the prize winners PM Paul with your details and I'll sort out sending him the above.

And to make life even harder, as far as i know there is now no such thing as an ''intrinsically safe'' IR meter anymore. The faithful old Metrom intrinsically safe model that had been around for donkey's years and used in just about every hazardous installation in the western world and beyond, is now deemed unsafe by European standards!! But is still available for sale and use in the States, Canada, and just about everywhere else!! lol!!

Wow, big thanks to the guys at Test-Meter!

Never won anything before, really appreciate the comments , this is why our trade is the best!

Thanks again.

I'll pick them up Test-Meter. Thanks for adding the extra two prizes, hard choice on just one winner.

Congratulations gents, got your details, they will be in the post by the weekend.

Wow!! Like the others I've never won anything before and this has put a big smile on my face.

Thats very generous of you Test Meter, thankyou.

PS @ Test-Meter.... Am I paying for the postage???? Lets talk about that tomorrow lol. Give me a call Mr. C...

Alrite chaps has my prize been posted as nothing received yet? Just checking its not got lost

Cheers

Hi Smity,

Haven't received mine either, but I think Paul.M was a bit snowed under as he had lots to post out so be patient, I'm sure it'll come :smile5:

Sorry gents, this falls on my shoulders. I have 1 prize to post out and communicate with Test-Meter about the other two. My fault, no one else's.

Very busy atm. 2 house rewires, 2 house extensions, 1 shop rewire on night shifts, normal customers to attend to + getting my foot in the door with a big national company for maintenance, repair and installs. I've dropped off the forum for a while to sort out real world life, sorry.

It will all be sorted out this week, trust me.

Paul

I do mate, and I would with my life, your a good en, end of.

Thanks lads. Just need to have an extra day in the week atm lol.

Trainee prizes are getting posted out tomorrow or the day after! Only 4 weeks late!!!!

Last week I saw Mrs M on the Tuesday morning, saw her again on Friday evening! Early starts, late finishes and no life in between. I'll box off the forum comps within 48 hours. All I can say is sorry.

ALL 11 prizes WILL be posted out on Friday, I've stuck 2 fingers up to everyone and taken the day off.

Postage is going to cost a bit and most of the members (trainees as well) have offered pay for it. If you want to, donate whatever you like to a local childrens charity.

Easy formula:- Test-Meter and Members have got hundreds of pounds worth of prizes and given them away. Mentors have run a comp plus this General section comp. If you want to donate to any charity, please do so, up to you.

Must say it has been fun doing this. I'll do it again but not in the immediate future. Prizes with you all soon.

Paul M

Thanks Paul, you can take a (small) break in a few weeks! Enjoy it while it lasts.
I have decided to buy a load of food to donate to my local food bank. Its a shame people need to rely on them in the first place.
A big Thank you to paul and other forum members (you know who you are) who have kindly given up time and money to forum competitions.

Wow I'm seriously choked up Amckay.

All because a few of us guys got together and donated 14+ prizes in the Trainee Section and this competition prizes donated by Test-Meter, the less fortunate will have food to eat this Christmas!!! Well done and what a great idea. Half of the winners have asked me if I want paying for P+P? Told everyone to give whatever donation to a local childrens charity or whatever they feel like giving to.

Buying a load of food for a local food bank at this time of year is brilliant. I hope others follow your lead and do the same.

We got 4 numbers last night, 10 p shy of £100. Because it's been a bloody good last few weeks it's going to https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...aAhsPEe_VJal_qkPg&sig2=D2qpoj-6EkcNgeTUzr1wlQ

Good call Trev, only cost you £2 and helps others out 50 times more! Like it.

Next Sunday it is my 40th birthday. Normally I buy myself a new shirt to go out in, think the £50 could be spent better elsewhere. I'll goolgle local food banks for the elderly in the morning and ask them what sort of food they are in need of. In fact I did some display lighting in a small food wholesalers last year, got on with the owner really well. May be worth having a chat and try to get a couple of 24 pack soup/beans out of him??? Worth a shot at least???

****, I honestly thought I'd discarded that. However, every little helps. Even if it's just publicity.
The more that right thinking people do stuff like this means more nails in the coffin of these horrible tory ****s.
Words cannot describe how much I despise these people.

I don't think that by us and others being kind to others is going to get the Tories out. I think it will give them carte Blanche to carry on behaving in the most disgraceful way.

But the people who go to food banks do it because they're desperate and the system (which we pay for) has let them down. Sometimes people need a little helping hand to get themselves back on their feet. And in a few years time it'll be that person who gives to those in need like others did to him
