Hi All,
I'm after a bit of advice regarding installing a dual socket into a summer house in my garden, the garden house is built and have wanted electric in it. The summer house it too far from the house to get electric from the house however we do have a garage that is connected to the main fusebox as a ring main via an underground cable which I might have dug up accidentally before, this was fitted when the house was built.

I brought a Outside Underground Armoured Cable from Wickes to lay underground to get electric to the summer house, originally I was going to use a BS certified outside weatherproof junction box and take it off of the pre-existing cable to avoid laying another cable into the garage. I decided against that and am now planning to feed the wire into the garage and either connect it as a spur off of the socket or connect a plug.

I'm unsure however regarding the legality of doing the work in regards to Part P and notifiable works, I assume as it was a spur it'd be okay but looking further into I'm now unsure because of the location. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Ben

Advice Ben, don't do it yourself get a skilled Electrician in to give you a quote to do the job safely, it's not just your life you are risking is it, think on.

Change like for like, light switch, light fitting, socket, no problem. Make new circuit, which is what you propose is notifiable. As Pete says, get an electrician in, there's a bit more to it than just 3 wires (what could possibly go wrong)

Poor advise. It's not a new circuit,it will be a spur off an existing circuit.

To the OP. You can carry out the work legally. It must comply with bs 7671.
Only you know if you are competant to do it safely and correctly.
This info on part P might help.
