I have been asked to install a new C/H Thermostat for a customer - never done one before so will be a learning curve.

How easy are they to install (never seeing the wiring diagram before - of course seen one in operation)

What makes are good to use, I dont know the make/model of the existing boiler or anything at present

The ones I have replaced has been very straight forward, you do however need to know if it is two wire or not, if you are just replacing like for like and not moving it then its normally just feed in from programmer etc then switch out back to the programmer or boiler (please correct me if I'm wrong guys), just search the Internet for wiring diagrams very quick to do, and the make are pretty much all the same, you pay for what you get most of the time.

Hope this helps

Chris

I dont think there is a Thermostat wired into the system at present - I think its just the standard timer which is installed on the unit - because he was saying he is fed up with the timer and wants it to come on automatically

Best thing to do is have a look then see what your starting with, like I said if you google wiring diagrams you can get all the common systems, I have them at home, for just such an occasion

Hi you have had good advice but I would just add that if you can find out the, boiler make and model, it would be worth making sure that the customer has the documentation or you get a diagram of the boiler. All the thermostats I have fitted have good drawings in the box. Most boilers have alink that has to be removed for the stat to work.
Good luck

Boilers often have a wiring diagram on the inside cover. If the boiler has a seperate controller you may need the diagram for this as well.

So many different heating systems out there now and if we don't know what you are going to do with it it's hard to be specific with help is it to control mid position valve diverter valve or just two port valve maybe no valve just underfloor heating via manifold room stats can do a multitude of things these days not just switch a pump on or off maybe if your not sure you should get the drawings first and see what is really needed

Honeywell do an app for wiring systems and trouble shooting can be handy

i think he needs to take a look around see what they have got..... but i do think he is on about a straight on/off timer too boiler and pump.....

im sure he'l be back
