Got a job coming up...

Customer wants lights in his fascias , all around his bungalow

He wants blue led lamps, was thinking of the cheapy 230v blue cluster led gu10 lamps as he doesn't want them to bright and there only about 3 quid in TLC.

Probably going to be controlled by time clock

My question to you guys is am I ok to use standard gu10 fittings or wood I need to use enclosed bathroom fittings???

Cheers in advance

no need for IP rated fittings in soffit . well out of the way of water.

So how about you post up your proposed method of carrying out this work, disregarding my previous comment. Then you'll get comments as to the validity of it

wire in loft, fit downlights in soffit is how i'd do it, same as in a ceiling. i generally fit a PIR to activate the lights.

ive seen it done before and the rain doest splash up that far, but there is 10 times more chance of getting a fault, so does ip mean nothing to you;)

or a day/night sensor and if you were to go with the lamps you on about at 1.8W per fitting, wouldnt be too bad

just pay telectrix £30 a day and charge the customer £150 a day plus materials, he makes good tea aswell

id say just go with an ip rating of x4 we bit more exspensive but then your considering the external influences

I'd also only fit external downlighters with a minimum IPX4 rating. In the scheme of things they're not that much more expensive.
There's nothing stopping the owner splashing water, either by sponge or hosepipe, all over the fittings when cleaning the soffit/fascia in future.

well. i've fitted quite a few and had no problems. eventually you may get problems with corrosion , but that's years away.

ive seen normal downlights out there too... and never been asked to fix them, but as gary above says , these days all the nice new white pvc which they all like to wash with a hose
