Hello Ladies and Gents,

Currently wiring a new double extension and updating new bits of the old property. The customer has now decided he wants dimmable downlights through out the house. This is not a problem but i wanted some clarification about low energy requirements as I keep hearing conflicting reports. I am thinking of persuading him to have led, maybe aurora but these are obviously expensive. What are the new requirements? Is it 50 or 75% of the fittings and can they be interchangeable now as from my experience i thought this was not allowed. The house is also high spec so well probaly want the same throughout and not some low energy some regular, there will be 60 in total. Has anyone got any products they can recommend?

Many Thanks

i would argue that that regulation only concerns new build properties. on an extension, you may be unlucky to have a brown nose building inspector insisting on these percentages of low energy lighting.

Thank you, i thought it was 75% but someone mentioned it had changed to 50%. Not sure what is the best idea. Led is best and saves money in long run but it is sometimes difficult persuading the client to pay that little bit extra in the intial stages.

so, fit some of those abysmal cfl lamps, customer then needs a torch to go to the bog, then price him up for some decent 7watt LEDs.

The regs do apply to extensions but not so heavy handed, the requirements are "reasonable provision", do the best you can.
Get them to pay for the LEDs they are much better and getting better all the time.
