Hi,
I have a 6kw double oven to fit and install the new circuit to supply it.
No problem with cable, ccu and switch etc for the circuit.
However, the consumer unit appears already to be overloaded. No spare mcbs and two showers running from it.

Firstly - what is the best way to connect the oven circuit (thinking of seperate 2 way unit with main switch and rcbo or is rcd main switch ok. ie garage or shower unit)

Secondly - heard of the shower priority switch/unit but not sure how they would be fitted or where they can be aquired

Your idea for connecting cooker is sound. I see where you are coming from regarding the possibility of overloading the main fuse etc.

Check the diversity calculations and allowances in the BRB. Even so what is the chance of both showers and cooker being on at the same time, and if they were then for how long. remember the cooker unlike the showers will not be drawing the full 6Kw all the time it is switched on, and it probably will never be on its highest setting either. I think with this one you need discussion with your customer as to if you do the work you cant have this that and the other on at the same time etc, a look at the books and also to apply some common sense as well. Iam guessing they dont want 3 phase. If you do go ahead then make sure you document the outcome of any discussions and agreements so the buck isnt passed to you if they blow the cutout fuse.

Cheers..........Howard

if you have to do something with the showers you can fit the automatic non-priority-that's off the shelf

or you can fit a manual system with a 4-pole contactor (2 n/o 2 n/c) and 2-way switches or a single push switch

what's the rcd on the oven for?-afraid i'm blonde on some of these uk rules-is it the install method?
