Afternoon all .. My Son has just bought a property in Scotland... it needs a new Consumer Unit and minor work .. I know there is No Part P as such but He’s been told I can’t certify my work up there due to not being part of the Scottish approved Contractors scheme .. is this correct, do I need to join yet another Government scheme ? Your help would be appreciated.

What Schemes are you a member of at the moment GW?

There is no need to notify building control up here. I would say just provide a certificate for the work carried out to the customer ( I hope he is paying you well!). Before I joined SELECT, which is the Scottish electrical contractors association, the local authority were happy with a certificate and an up to date grade card if I wired a new build.

Depending on the type of work and the type of property a building warrant might be required. If it is your son is responsible for obtaining this.
