not had chance to persue the fault, just thought i'd see if anyone knows whats up...

basically, its the top of the stairs light, it tends to come on and off when it feels like it, some times it can be functioning properly all the time, then it'll go off, then when i come back from home, (i'll have left it on the night before) and it'll be on :S. reakon its a neutrel fault ?

Maybe a loose connection in the rose, that when on and the cable has warmed and working up will become disconnected and possibly cause arcing.

Cables vibrate when working, which is why on a lot of older properties when you remove sockets and switches, conductors pull out easily from their terminals.

So basically, get to those terminals and give em a tweak (with the circuit isolated of course).

Sounds like a loose connection as mentioned above, also it could be a sticking spring loaded pin in the B/C lampholder or even a failing filament in the lamp, for the sake of it for the minimal cost involved change the whole lot after checking switch connections !!!!!!

i have attended allot of faults like this and 9 times out of 10 its a loose wire inthe switch
