Anyone hear the news today? A British shipbuilder has got the job to build Battery powered Ferry's!
I'm looking forward to the posts on here asking for help asking what size cables to install so the chargers... Each cell/Battery weighs 6 tons.

Ah ha! That explains why I had somebody phone me this afternoon, asking if they should stick with lead-acid batteries on their narrowboat, or "try these new lithium ones".

Each cell/Battery weighs 6 tons

I am not dragging three of those half a mile along the towpath.

Ye god’s! 6 tonnes each, how many are there? They can’t be single cell, to get any decent voltage you’d need quite a few of them. A bank of them has got to weigh more than a diesel engine so reducing the ferries payload. Doesn’t add up to me.

Now it makes more sense, fairly small ships and with diesel generation to keep a constant base load.
