not come across one of these before. it's dimming 2 x 1200 recessed florries.( 4 tubes each ). the actual dimmer switch has Lin and Lout, but also has 2 terminals + and - wired in telecom cable. ( so elv ). . don't know what's gone as lights don't work. tried a 1K dimmer, but then lights flicker when dimmed so dimmer is incompatible. had to leave it temp. on a standard rocker switch.

anyone any ideas where these dimmers can be obtained, or recommend an alternative? cheers lads.

The dimamble fluorescent I have encountered have terminals on the electronic ballast that accept a 0-10v input, depending on the voltage given determines the brightness.

I have installed these in quarantine grow rooms, not sure if the system you speak of is the same.

Look on the back of the dimmer it should give make and model number just order exact same that's what I did

The ballasts might even be addressable Tel, or they could be standard dimmable ballasts, difficult to say without a ballast make and model number. I would remove the 1kw dimmer immediately it could cause more damage.

Is the fault with the dimmer or the ballast ?

Shame you don't have a selv Ov ground reference you could then bring in an external signal voltage of a 12v battery to proof the ballast through a Pot'.

thanks for all replies. mr. resistor looks good. it says 1-10V on the switch. rest is in german. marvo, i tried the 1KW dimmer to see. when it was apparent that it was no good, i replaced with a bog standard rocker 10A plate switch,

I can only assume its a PnP set-up hence my comment if you had a 0V terminal on transistor side (selv) you could in thoery strapit to the Negative of a battery and run your positive from the battery through a resistor and mimic the same effect the ballast does with its own control supply.

Are the lamps still ok you may have dimming issues if lamps on way out ...?

marvo, i think so. topquark's post led me to mr. resistor and a phone call this morning ordered the part. apparently the dimmer acts in 2 ways. a basic on/off and also a variable voltage ( 0 - 10V ) sent to the ballast to dim. also used with LED drivers. thanks a gain to all who posted, (esp. topquark)
