Discuss Has the 'Respected Member' tag had its day? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have a Forum Mentor badge, but I don't go into the training section on a regular basis. I just help out everyone when I can.

Oh, I used to have a Forum Mentor badge..:laughing::laughing:

Why does everyone have to have a badge?

Please read posts.
The 'Respect' badge was an idea of the staff.
The others, I think, are so that the forum knows who is allowed into what sections of the forum.
Do they need to be shown??? Not my decision mate.

As I have posted above, to take your comment further, what information 'needs' to be shown? Just the name really.
I can't see @Dan just putting the name and nothing else of the left hand side of the post. It would make us all equal though.

I was lucky to be brought up by good parents .
I was brought up to to show respect to everything and everyone.
I have lived my life trying to live up to my parents respect ; and I do , until I am given reason not too.

1 thing i might suugest would be the badge "trainee access" be only for trainees, and that "trainee mentor" being applied to qualifies/experienced sparks who help in that forum.

I’ve changed my mind twice now regarding this thread.
(I feel,like a Liberal Democrat)

First I thought it’s useful to know who can be relied on to give good advice.

@Dan then changed my mind due to the information he has been giving in his posts.

Now I’ve changed my mind again.
I do understand @Dan is frustrated with members with labels not living up to expectations.
But rather than remove all together. Review each member with a tag every 12 months to see if they are performing as per tag and remove if necessary.
Also before giving a member a tag tell them what the minimum expectations are and ask if they cannot deliver say now so to avoid getting removed later.

That's basically what we do on tilers.

They lose the tag and get upset though. Like they can't live up to it year on year because of life commitments etc

But good post mate.

Not everyone does.

Can we get rid of this 5 word minimum thing?
Maybe make it 4. But if a post can't be said in a sentence it should be left to the like buttons.

Google is hammering us on pages with lots of one words in. So moving forward we need to use at least sentences in public forums.

I thought the idea was to share information, no knows everything. Life is a great teacher which I have found to be the best source of knowledge there is. Having "classes" is too much like our politicians. Which again from life's experiences I try to avoid like Ebola .

Surely every member is respected.

It sounds ever so cliquey.

I think in the current times when everybody should be totally equal, denoting who's 'respected' it a bit cheeky.

It used to be called "Elite Member" - Christ, imagine if we had that these days?!?!?!
On TilersForums.com it's now 'Trusted Advisor' but even then the advice changes and it's marking old now inaccurate posts as if the post should be trusted. And it can cause a bit of a shitstorm every now and again because some poor sod has tiled their bathroom the old way and their tiles are falling off.

I've put a poll up to get a feel for it. But it's not to say if either outcome is clear - that we will go for it.

It's up for discussion.

Please be professional with your replies. That said we wont be warning anybody for speaking out. This is my own thread and my chin can take it. :)
I don’t see any harm in

I don’t see any harm in keeping respected members if done properly. For example, I’m on a mk1 golf forum and we have different levels of members, like ‘newbie’ ‘old timer’ ‘local hero’ etc and this works really well in the sense that the more experienced members help the newbies or less experienced with car related issues and repairs. Newbies aren’t afraid to ask questions which others may find silly and they know they will happily get good answer with good advice from someone who knows what they are talking about. The same as I’d be happy taking advice or information from a ‘respected member’ on here.
